Welcome to the Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies Committee at SLAAS
In an academic landscape increasingly shaped by complexity and interconnection, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies offer a dynamic framework for inquiry, collaboration, and innovation. This field invites students and scholars to move beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines, integrating diverse methodologies, epistemologies, and perspectives to address complex societal, scientific, and global challenges.
Whether you are an undergraduate exploring flexible academic pathways, a graduate student pursuing advanced research that spans multiple domains, or a faculty member engaged in collaborative, cross-disciplinary scholarship, our programs provide the intellectual space and support to push boundaries and generate new knowledge.
By bridging the gaps between fields—and between academia and real-world practice, Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies prepare you to think critically, work collaboratively, and lead with insight in an increasingly interconnected world.
Aims and Objectives
In 2023, to promote interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research studies in Sri Lanka, SLAAS initiated a new committee under the guidance of the then General President Prof. Ranjith Senarathne, who named the committee the Committee of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies (IDTDS Committee). Since then, both past and current General Presidents have supported the work of the committee tremendously.
The main objective of the committee is to promote awareness of Interdisciplinary and Transdisciplinary Studies in state universities by conducting awareness workshops, guest lectures, and panel discussions on current issues involving multiple stakeholders.
